Todd Akira Fukuda was born in Fresno at the Community Regional Medical Center, but was proudly raised in Hanford, California by Atsuyuki (Ats) and Maureen Minako Fukuda. Todd attended Monroe Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Middle School, and Hanford West High School, where he was one of the class Valedictorians. A stellar student, Todd participated in Spelling Bee competitions, tennis, and Odyssey of the Mind. Todd attended and graduated from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo earning his Bachelors Degree in Ecology and Systematic Biology in 2002. He began work with Weinberger & Associates LLC as a Pest Control Advisor for a number of years, routinely checking almonds, cotton, and his favorite, pistachios. In late 2021, he took ownership of the company, renaming it Weinberger, Fukuda, and Associates. He continued his work, sustaining relationships with farmers through the valley, and extending beyond the Santa Barbara and Sacramento areas.
Todd’s guiding principle in life was “Dana,” a Buddhist philosophy centered on giving freely and wholeheartedly, with no expectation of anything in return. He volunteered and donated time and efforts to several organizations, lending a hand whenever and wherever he could. He volunteered annually at the Hanford Farm Day Show, and served on the board of the Kings County Farm Bureau for many years. A devoted member of the Hanford Buddhist Church, Todd served as President of the church and dedicated countless hours to the neighboring Buddhist temples around the valley.
When not working, Todd enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He played piano and the Japanese musical instrument, koto, where he performed at recitals, church functions, and competitions. He traveled throughout the United States to visit various baseball parks, enjoyed beer festivals, and doted on his friends’ and cousins’ kids. His primary role was “Funcle” to his only nephew, Logan. He planted a garden with Logan to teach him how to raise his own crops, attended every single piano recital, and spent hours with him. Logan and Uncle T were a joy to watch.
Altruism has always been in Todd’s nature. The family finds comfort knowing Todd’s final gift was his decision to be an organ donor. His gift to provide life for others will be his legacy.
Todd is survived by his father and mother, Atsuyuki and Maureen Minako Fukuda, his brother Aaron Fukuda and his wife Dina, his nephew Logan Fukuda, Tok Fukuda (Uncle), Louise and Chuck Dwiggins (Aunt and Uncle), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Todd is preceded in death by his Uncle (Walter Mizote), Aunt (Fumiko Mizote), and his Grandparents (Roy & Yoshiye Mizote and Sunao & Mitsuye Fukuda).
