Tony I. Gauna

With much heartache we announce that Tony Gauna, 87, of Laton California passed away at his home on Monday, March 25th, 2024. Son of Federico and Rebecca (Carabajal) Gauna, he was born February 25th, 1937, in the town of Vaughn, New Mexico.

He moved from New Mexico to California in 1955 and met Laura Gentry. They fell in love and were married in 1958 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They went on to enjoy sixty-five beautiful years as husband and wife. Tony was a very loving and devoted husband and father. He was an extremely hard-working person, but always put his family first. The most important priority in Tony’s life was to be a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He far exceeded those goals. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family...and occasionally at the casino. He was greatly loved by those that knew him and left us many fond, loving memories. He will surely be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Pauline LeBouef, brothers Fred “Junior” Gauna Jr. and Alfito “Freddy” Gauna, and his son, Richard Gauna.

Tony is survived by his wife, Laura Gauna; daughter, Anna Rasmussen and her husband, Allen, of Clovis California; son, Anthony and his wife, Janette, of Los Banos California; two sisters, Consuelo Lucero of Arizona, and Angela Mainer of Nevada. Also, he was a proud grandparent of six grandchildren and great-grandparent to eighteen great-grandchildren, and had many, many other loved ones and friends.

In keeping with Tony’s caring and compassion for those less fortunate, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Tony’s name.

His family would also like to thank AseraCare Hospice and People’s Funeral Chapel. Their excellent staff made a very difficult situation endurable.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, at People’s Funeral Chapel, 501 North Douty Street, Hanford California. Arrangements are under the direction of Dignity Memorial. Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.peoplesfuneralchapel.com.
