Born September 19, 1935, in Ozark, Missouri, she graduated from Hiawatha High School in Hiawatha, Kansas in 1953 and enjoyed friendships made there that spanned more than 65 years. In 1966 she started her career with AT&T as a reports clerk in Fairview, Kansas, and she was promoted over the years and worked in Kansas City and Atlanta, retiring as a Quality Consultant in 1989. She always said that it was her desire to draw a pension longer than she worked for the company, and she did - with 5 years to spare!
Never a fan of shoveling snow, she moved to San Antonio, Texas, and purchased a home.
Not one to sit idly in retirement, she went looking for a part time job and landed in the mortgage lending department of Frost Bank and retired from there as well.
Always passionate and committed to any task before her, retirement gave her the opportunity to direct her talents to volunteerism, and she became involved with several organizations. Working with Living Waters for the World to bring clean water for all was her greatest passion, and she made many trips to Guatemala - doing everything from planting coffee and installing clean water systems to teaching classes to train others to do the same.
Other special causes dear to her heart were the Loaves and Fishes program to feed the homeless at First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, the Healy Murphy Center, and the House of Neighborly Service. She moved to Hanford in 2017 to be closer to her family as she battled renal failure and underwent dialysis.
Katy is survived by her daughter, Teresa Voyles and her husband Kelly; grandsons Matthew and Carter; a brother, Tom Brown, of Texas; and nine nieces and nephews.
