

Zora Alyne Baker Harris passed to her rest on June 29, 2017, at 95 years of age, in the home of her daughter in Hanford, CA. She was born October 15, 1921, in Soper, OK, to Ed and Viola Mann Baker. Alyne graduated high school in June 1941, and the next day boarded a bus for Bishop, CA, where she worked at the Kittie Lee Inn as a waitress and enjoyed flying with young men training at the Army Air Corps flight training base. In 1943, she moved to Santa Monica to be with her dearest friend, Jewel Reese, and worked at the Douglas Aircraft Company as a “Rosie the Riveter”. In 1946, she married Robert Glen Harris in Phoenix, AZ. They soon moved San Diego and lived the next 33 years there, raising two daughters, Diane and Judy.
In 1979, they retired to Soper, OK, where they built a new home on acreage next to Alyne’s father’s cattle ranch. In 1986 Alyne moved to Lancaster, CA, to live near her life-long friend Jewel Reese Arnett. In 2004 Alyne moved to Lincoln, CA to live with her daughter Diane and son-in-law Don.
Alyne is survived by her daughter Diane Hoyt of Hanford, CA, and daughter Judith McDermott of Victorville, CA; two half-brothers: Edward Baker, Jr. of Hugo, OK and Burl Baker of Soper, OK; five grandchildren: Kristina Dumbeck, Jason McDermott, Karri Rose, William McDermott and Kathryn Gerhardt; and 11 great-grandchildren.
