A loving father, cherished son and brother, and a treasured friend, Tim was someone people were simply glad to know.
Tim grew up in La Grange, IL, and attended Fenwick High School in Oak Park. He was a proud graduate of Boston College, where he earned his degree in finance with a minor in history and made friendships that lasted a lifetime.
From an early age, Tim loved the game of basketball. He was in his element playing and coaching, and often said, "If only I was 6'4"."
The NBA didn't work out, so Tim channeled that same competitive drive into a long and successful career in software sales, spending more than two decades working with SAP solutions before joining SAP itself, where he worked for over eight years. Known for his ability to build trust and lasting relationships with clients and colleagues alike, Tim brought the same warmth to his professional life that he was known for everywhere else.
He will be remembered for his outgoing personality and his gift for turning strangers into lifelong friends. He could recite his favorite movies line for line and never grew tired of watching them. He lived and breathed sports in every form: on the court, on the course, in the stands, or tuned into sports radio. No one could beat him at trivia. He used to joke that he was "a fountain of useless knowledge."
Above all, nothing mattered more to Tim than being Carlin and Devyn's dad. He never missed a chance to tell anyone who would listen how proud he was of them, and was a constant presence on the sidelines, rarely missing a game, tournament, or regatta.
He is survived by his daughters, Carlin and Devyn Hanley; his mother, Kathleen Hanley; his siblings, Kevin Hanley (Indira Raju), Colin Hanley (Altagrace Douge), and Katie Kessler (Tom); his former wife, Dawn Curtis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Alan Hanley.
A funeral will be held at Holy Family Church in Duxbury, Massachusetts, his home for 25 years, on Tuesday, July 7th at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, go watch a game, call an old friend, or consider doing something kind for someone in need.
