Amelia D. (Croce) Smith, of Norwell, MA, passed away after a brief illness on April 28, 2023, at the age of 90. Amy was born to Frank J. Croce and Amelia (Civiello) Croce in Brooklyn, NY on July 4, 1932. She graduated from Prospect Heights High School and attended Pratt Institute to pursue a degree in Art. After completing her degree, Amy held a position for many years as a commercial artist at the Atlantic Gummed Paper Corporation, which was located in the iconic Clock Tower building at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge. Amy was a devoted mother and a steadfast advocate for her son’s education. Even after the family’s move to New Jersey in the mid-1960s, she continued for the next several years to battle midtown traffic to drive him to school in Manhattan each morning before heading to work in Brooklyn. In those days, she enjoyed gathering with her extended family for traditional Italian dinners and frequent trips Upstate to Lake George, NY.
Upon retirement, Amy became her mother’s devoted caregiver until her passing at the age of 88. Twenty years ago she moved to Norwell to be close to her son, his wife, and her cherished grandchildren. Amy loved attending events for her grandsons, especially their music concerts and hockey games, and she was always extremely proud of their accomplishments. She also enjoyed movies, eating at her favorite restaurants, and had been well known for speed walking around Jacobs Pond Condos.
She was generous and selfless, and it was in her nature to make the people in her life always feel special and cared for. Amy’s family and friends truly meant the world to her.
Amy is survived by her son Greg Smith and his wife Tove, grandsons Eric and Marc, her sister and confidant Lucille Federico, niece Paula and nephew Nick Federico, his wife Maria, and their children Ava and Nick. She was joyfully anticipating Eric’s upcoming marriage to his fiancée Emily Tiedtke. She is predeceased by her parents and her former husband Donald F. Smith.
Amy was deeply cherished by the people in her life, and she will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
