Bernice E. Martel

Bernice (Hurlburt) Martel, 91, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sibling, aunt, cousin and dear friend, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of June 8, 2026.

Bernice (aka “Nana”) was born on November 5, 1934, to Nathalie and Bernard Hurlburt of Stoneham. She later moved to Quincy after marrying her sweetheart, Armand. She was a dedicated wife and mother to six children – five girls and one boy.

She was a woman of strong faith and radiated that love and positivity to all she met. She was gifted with hospitality, always welcoming people into her home. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, vibrant personality, warmth, sweetness, and love of music.

She was preceded in death by her siblings (Reginald Hurlburt, Ernest Hurlburt, Marie Sciascia), her husband Armand Martel, and her daughter, Donna Driscoll. She is survived by her siblings Irene Maffeo, Florence Paonessa, and Damian Hurlburt, her children – Linda Chace (& husband John), James Martel (& wife Paula), Carol Kinan, Irene Schmitz, and Michelle Chiaramonte (& husband Chuck), 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington Street, Route 53, Hanover, on Wednesday, June 17th, from 2-4 pm, immediately followed by a celebration of life service in the funeral home.
