Bill was born in Salem, MA on July 22, 1939, to William and Agnes Mary Armstrong (nee Reardon). His parents moved the family to Falmouth, MA where he graduated from Lawrence High School in Falmouth in 1957. Unsurprisingly, the class of ‘57 voted Bill best dressed and most popular. Bill was well known for his drumming in high school, was part of a small band, and at one point was considering it as a career. After high school Bill served in the Army for 2 years and was stationed in Germany and thus began his love of travel. Upon his return home, Bill went on to earn a degree in Business from Becker College in Worcester, MA. Bill spent 30-plus years working in sales in the international freight sales industry for various companies, including Air Express International and Eagle Global Logistics. Bill loved traveling the world. And took many wonderful trips all over the world with his wife, his family, and his dear friends. Bill and his wife Cathy raised their family in Duxbury, Massachusetts. In Duxbury, they found a special group of friends that became a second family to him and his family. Boating and beaching were a big part of his life. Meeting friends at Saquish, taking a cruise in Duxbury Bay on a summer night, and heading to the “drive on” beach were Bill’s favorite ways to spend time each summer. In the winter skiing was the sport of choice. Bill always made sure the road trips to North Conway, Vermont, and even Canada were a great time. In later years he loved meeting friends for a cup of coffee in the morning and a game of cribbage in the afternoon.
Bill is survived by daughter Kristin and her husband Eric Willner of Marshfield, his son Kevin and his wife Roi Armstrong of Braintree, and daughter Kimberly Armstrong of South Boston. Bill aka “Pop” loved spending time with his grandkids Anna, Margaret, Duncan, Meghan, and Jake. He was invested in their activities and very present in their lives. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Louise Berg of Mashpee, and Ellen Ferrelli of Fort Lauderdale. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 45 years Catherine Clare Hughes (Cathy). We all loved him and were so blessed to have him in our lives.
We would like to express our gratitude to Proprietors Green in Marshfield, MA for the care they have given him over the past year-plus. He loved ice cream! And thank you to the nurses and doctors at South Shore Hospital. We are thankful for your guidance through this difficult time, you eased Bill’s pain and we are forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bill Armstrong’s name to Crossroads for Kids in Duxbury, Ma. (aka Camp Wing) where Kris, Kev and Kim all attended and worked.
