Brian T. Moloney, Sr., 67, of Hanover, passed away “Fighting All the Way” on July 31st, 2018 in the presence of his wife Patricia (York) Moloney, his children and their spouses - daughter Katherine and her husband Steve Gagne of Westhampton, son Brian and his wife Marina of Sudbury, and son Brendan and Ashley of Brooklyn - and grandchildren Andrew, Rose, Martin, Mary Lou, and Nico.
Brian died on the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola after a long illness and waiting too long for the Bruins “to just shoot the dang puck.”
Brian was raised in Norwood’s Crestwood Circle and attended St. Catherine’s School before heading onto Xaverian Brothers High School’s Class of ’69, where he was the winning goalie for the Catholic Conference Championship team in ‘68, and Providence College, where he was a proud member of the freshman hockey team.
Brian met his wife, Patty, while serving her coffee at Friendly’s Ice Cream in Norwood, a habit he developed throughout their 43 years of marriage. After earning his M.B.A at Syracuse University, they eventually moved to Hanover where they have lived for 33 years, raising their three children in the loving community they formed in Hanover athletics along with the fellow coaches and their children. Together they wholeheartedly cheered at all their children and grandchildren’s games, even until Brian’s last year of his life journeying to watch the Natick High School football team, where his son, Brian, Jr. coaches. Together they enjoyed driving to their summer home in Maine where they worked to make it a special place for his family and especially his grandchildren.
“Papa’s” greatest joy was his grandchildren: Andrew, Rose, Martin, Mary Louise and Nico - who all together nurtured life in him: playing catch, playing checkers, reading stories, cheering them on at baseball and soccer games, and attending their recitals and concerts.
Brian worked on the South Shore as a residential loan officer and branch manager for many companies over 40 years, concluding his career at the Mortgage Network. Over the years, Brian had a deep affection for “his team” and the realtors with whom they partnered to help people buy their homes and provide for their families in the same way he always worked to provide for his. Brian was a member of the Mortgage Banker’s Association and long-time affiliate member of the Realtor Trade Association and South Shore Realtors. He received the Association’s prestigious Affiliate of the Year Award in 2015 for his participation and commitment to the Association and the real estate industry. Brian remained devoted to his work and colleagues at Mortgage Network until his death and they, in turn, remained exceptionally supportive of him.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, Daniel Joseph and Katherine (Carroll) Moloney, and his brother, Daniel J. Moloney. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Brian is survived by: his nieces, Alina and Jennifer Moloney, devoted aunt, Loyola Carroll of Lexington, and his mother-in-law, Louise York of Hanover, as well as the Carroll and York families.
He was the brother-in-law of Janice and Walter Reese of Mattapoisett; Diane Connell of Lakeville; Maureen and Robert Perry of Plymouth; Kevin and Patricia York of Sandwich; and Colleen York of Hanover. He leaves 13 York family nieces and nephews, their spouses, and grandnieces and nephews.
He was the devoted friend of Kathleen and Art Behrens of Northborough, MA and they of him.
His gratitude remains with those who supported him on this journey: including family, dear friends, his colleagues at the Mortgage Network and the teams at Dana Farber, Tufts Medical and Fresenius.
Brian will continue to be watching his grandkids from the best seat in the house.
Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St. Rte. 53, Hanover, on Monday, August 6th from 4-8 PM. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St. Rte. 139, Hanover, on Tuesday at 10 AM. Burial to follow in Hanover Center Cemetery.
Donations may be given in Brian’s memory to Xaverian Brothers High School and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
