Cary "Rory" S Coveney

Rory grew up in Weymouth along with his eight siblings and loving and devoted mother Claire. Every gathering with his family was a party -- they had the numbers! Rory enjoyed bow hunting with his brothers and friends in Maine and on Nantucket. As a young man he became interested in the culinary arts and worked as a chef in Massachusetts and then in Washington DC., eventually making his way back home, where he found his true calling in law enforcement.

He attended the police academy and joined the Scituate Police Department where he worked for more than 34 years. While there, he worked hard to put himself through college and obtained a bachelor's degree in criminal law. He was always striving to be the best he could be. Rory settled in Pembroke where he raised his five children with his wife Christine of 40 years. He was an avid cruiser and traveler, with many trips to Disney with his children, grandchildren and friends.

Rory is survived by his wife Christine (Buote) Coveney "Je t'aime pour toujours." His son, Sean and Tiffany Coveney of Nebraska; daughter Kerrie Henrickson of Rockland; daughter Tammi and Jeffrey Silvia of Somerset; son James and Kelly Coveney of Plymouth; and son Ryan and Dana Coveney of West Palm Beach, Fl. His grandchildren are Quinn, Myra, Kyle, Christian, Jeffrey, Janey, Madison, Travis, and Molly. He loved his best dogs, Mia and Matilda, who slept by his side and watched over him every night. He is survived by his brother, Joel Coveney of Marshfield; sister Diane and Bob McQuarrie of Vermont; brother Shawn and Lauralee Coveney of Holbrook; brother Jerel and Sue Coveney of Maine; brother Keith and Elizabeth Coveney of Grafton; sister Tara Coveney of Weymouth; and brother Greg of Weymouth. His sister-in-law Judy Coveney of Weymouth; sister-in-law Betsey Cloyd of Scituate; brother-in-law Harold (Bunky) and Dorothy Buote of Maine; sister-in-law Annemarie of Kingston; sister-in-law Donna Tenore of Marshfield; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his late parents, John and Claire (Knowles) Coveney; his late brother Peter Coveney of Weymouth; and his late brother-in-law Lee Cannon of Kingston. He is also predeceased by his late sister-in-law Janice and the late John Henderson of Plymouth, and late sister-in-law Cheryl Payson of Maine.

Visiting hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on July 16 at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Hanover, followed by a burial service at 11:30 a.m. in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield.
