Claire C. Murphy

Claire C. (Swanson) Murphy, 87 of Hanson and formerly of South Boston, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 22, 2021. Born in South Boston on June 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Alton Harry Swanson and Anna G. (Crowley, Swanson) Scales. Claire was the loving sister of Richard, the late Ronald Swanson and Elaine(Swanson) Connolly.

Claire was married to her high school sweetheart, the late Charles J. (Skip) Murphy for 55 years. They raised their family in So. Boston before relocating to Halifax, MA, where they had enjoyed many years of family vacations at their cottage on Monponsett Lake.

Devoted mother of Margaret Riley and her late husband, Joe , the late Charles(Buddy) Murphy and his wife Maureen and Maureen Ennis and her late husband Jimmy. Claire was the loved and cherished Grandmother and Great Grandmother to Jessica and Jason Bassett and their children Patrick and Riley, Joseph Riley and his daughter Kellianne, Patrick and Laura Murphy and their children Declan and Connor, Kristen Murphy and her son Joseph(JD) Vitale and James(Jae)Ennis. Claire also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

Claire will be lovingly remembered for her vibrant and fun loving personality. Claire and Skip’s house was always open to family and friends for celebrations and entertainment, whether it was in Southie for St. Patrick's Day and birthday parties or in Halifax for Holiday cookouts and fun on on lake. They were gracious hosts and enjoyed spending time together making many happy memories for all.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 28, from 9-10:30AM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St, at the corner of Rte 14 & 58 in Hanson. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM at Holy Apostles Church(Our Lady of the Lake) 575 Monponsett St., Halifax. Burial to follow at Vine Hills Cemetery, Samoset St. Plymouth.
