

David W. "Dave", "Pete" Forrand, 81 of Halifax formerly of Whitman and Hanson died August 31 at home surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Gloria A. Swanberg Forrand. Born at home in Whitman on February 1, 1931 he was the son of the late Arthur A. Forrand Sr. and Helen F. Dolan Forrand. He was predeceased by his siblings Russell V., Arthur A. Jr., H. Muriel Forrand Slocum and Albert J. Forrand. He attended Whitman schools and was a 1948 graduate of Whitman High School. David served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. While still stationed at Camp Quantico, VA he married his wife Gloria in Whitman. They raised their family in Whitman and Hanson. David and Gloria celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 19, 2012. David's life career was in the automotive business beginning as an automobile detailer in Dorchester. Primarily he was an automobile salesman notably with Oldsmobile at Bryantville Auto Sales in Pembroke and Sinnott Oldsmobile in Marshfield. He also was a salesman at Maquire Chevrolet, Simes' Auto Sales, F&M Auto Sales and Shepherd's Auto. During his semi-retirement he was employed by Autopart International. David was an accomplished pianist. He often accompanied local bands and musicians and always performed at gatherings for family and friends. He especially enjoyed "four-handed piano" with his sister Muriel or his son Peter. David also enjoyed dancing with his wife, Gloria, gardening, bird watching and early morning coffee at local establishments with his many, many friends. David "Pete" is survived by his wife Gloria of Halifax, son Peter M. Forrand of Duxbury, daughter Valerie M. Forrand Williams of Pembroke and daughter Renee A. Forrand Valverde and her husband Dave of Halifax. He was also the father of the late Paulette Marie Forrand. David is also survived by his grandchildren Joshua M. Palmer, Bridget A. Palmer Small, Richard A. "Randy" Frattalone, Nicholas D. Frattalone and Francesca P. Forrand. In addition, David is survived by his great grandchildren Anthony, Annette, Andrew and Aiden. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St., at the corner of Rte 14 & 58 in HANSON on Thursday from 4-7PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00AM in St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan St., Rte 14 in Hanson. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in David's name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to Beacon Hospice, 32 Resnick Rd., Plymouth, MA 02360. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude for their kindness and expertise care to Beacon Hospice.
