
Dr. George D. Lynch of Hanover died December 11 after a long illness at John Scott House in Braintree. Son of the late George F. and Dorothy nee Langley Lynch, he was born July 22, 1927 in Taunton. George is survived by his sister Carol Stevens of W. Bridgewater and his brothers Gerald Lynch of Avon and Kevin Lynch of Brockton. Devoted father of Catherine Leary of Raleigh, NC, Robin Lynch of West Tisbury, Kara Harty and her husband Matt of Rockville, MD, Dr. George Lynch Jr. and his wife Julie nee Fontaine of Duxbury and Phillip Lynch and his wife Maureen nee Hanley of Westport, CT. Loving Grandfather of Meghan and Caroline Leary, Benjamin, William, and Samuel Brewer, Jaryn Conway, Emily Lynch, Phillip Jr. and Brendan Lynch, Finn and Maris Harty. He was the former husband of the late Patricia Davis of Plainville. Longtime Companion of Elizabeth Puffer of Duxbury. After Graduating at 16 years old from Brockton High School, George attended the College of the Holy Cross "Class of 1951, and then graduated from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1957 before opening his dental practice in Whitman, MA where he practiced for almost 50 years. He was a part-time national college talent scout for the New England Patriots, then the New York Football Giants for 30 years. In the 1960s and 70s he recruited young men for the football program at Holy Cross College, as well as mentoring them toward academic success. George was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII, raised horses at his farm, was an avid equestrian, enjoyed gardening his house was selected for the garden club tour, was a lifelong subscriber to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, theater enthusiast and loyal friend to many. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in Hanover on Friday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00AM in St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Interment in Hanover Center Cemetery.
