Edward J Donofrio

Eddie was proud to say he grew up in Roxbury, and dedicated his life to his family and serving his community. He proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army. Edward received his Bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and was a dedicated Boston Police Officer for 42 years, serving in both the mounted horse unit and auto division and earning a Medal of Honor for his service and retiring with Badge #1.

Edward’s pride and joy in life was his family and loved ones. He leaves behind his loving companion of over 20 years, Donna Morelli of Middleton MA. He also leaves behind two daughters, Jill Polin and her husband Jim of Pembroke, MA and Kim Kane and her husband Rob of Quincy, MA. He will be greatly missed by his beloved granddaughters, Rachael and Samantha Polin and Jacquelyn and Alexandria Kane, who knew him as “Papa”. He is also survived by his siblings Helen Murphy and her husband Paul of Boston, and Josephine Morehouse of Boston. He is predeceased by his brother James “Jimboy” Donofrio of Boston. Edward was also the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Eddie spent a lot of his time cooking enough Italian food to feed an army and sitting down to eat with his family. It was always obvious when he’d been cooking or baking, because his shirt would remain covered in flour for the rest of the day. If he wasn’t in the kitchen, you could find Eddie watching the horse races in the Turf Club at Suffolk Downs, one of his favorite places and where he met his love, Donna.

After Eddie retired, he and Donna would escape to their happy place in Naples, FL, where he would spend his days relaxing and enjoying the little things in life. He could often be heard calling people “mamalukes”, especially while watching any Boston sports team play. When he was asked to tell one of his famous stories, it would be captivating and hilarious and exactly the same as every other time he told it, to the letter.

Eddie’s legacy will endure in the hearts of those who loved him, in his delicious recipes, and in the community that he so proudly served. His loved ones will be forever inspired by his faith, love, and generosity.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St. (Route 53), Hanover, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Saint Ann Parish, 757 Hancock St, Quincy, MA, with a burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 Lagrange St, Boston, MA.
