Edward James Dunford

Ed is survived by his wife Elaine, their daughter Christina, son Thomas and his wife Cheryl, and his grandchildren: Abigail, Thomas, and Anne, Micah, Ian, Alden, Arianna, and Lily.

Ed was born in Milton, MA, on July 11, 1935, to Thomas and Elizabeth Dunford. He is predeceased by his brother Frank Dunford and his sister Elaine (Dunford) Kelley.

Ed graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in 1952 and Boston College with a BSBA in 1956. He entered into the Army after college and served for 2 years. He was discharged in 1958 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1968, Ed graduated from Suffolk University with a MBA. 

Ed married Elaine (Misch) in 1964. They lived for over 28 years in Norwell, MA, where Ed was active in town government. He served on the Norwell Board of Assessors for 15 years.  They have lived in Rockland for 13 years.

Ed worked for the US Customs from 1961 to 1988. He started as an Internal Auditor and became the Deputy Assistant Regional Commissioner. His job involved traveling to many countries and across the United States.

When Ed retired from Customs in 1988, he began working with the Massachusetts State Auditor’s office as a Forensic Audit Manager. After he retired from this position, he registered as a private detective with a specialty in white collar crime. 

Ed loved the logic of numbers and he had a passion for uncovering financial fraud in large institutions. He became gleeful when he found something big. He loved dogs, listening to the game on the radio, and reading the Sunday papers. By far the most extroverted of all his family members, Ed was proud of his enduring connections with his group of friends from high school. He will be missed.  

Visitation will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 2 Maquan St, Corner Route 14&58, Hanson, on Wednesday, July 26th at 10 AM with a Funeral Mass celebrated at Holy Apostles Parish (St Joseph the Worker Church) 1 Maquan St, Hanson, Route 14, at 11 AM. Burial to follow at Milton Cemetery.
