

Mrs. Eleanor M. Kelley Doherty, a Braintree resident for 50 years, died on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Randolph. The daughter of the late William P. and Alice J. Kelley Sr., she was raised and educated in Brighton, and she received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts. She was a member of the USO during WWII. Mrs. Doherty was employed as an Executive Secretary for a number of years, and she later returned to school to study Library Science. She was employed for many years as a Librarian at Thayer Public Library in Braintree until the late 1980's. Mrs. Doherty was devoted to her faith and to her family. She enjoyed family get-togethers, reading, woodworking, watching baseball, and playing golf. Loving wife of the late Frank R. Doherty, to whom she was married for 31 years, she was the devoted mother of Nancy Doherty Schmitt and her husband Gary Schmitt of Hanover and Daniel Doherty and his wife Pamela Tom of San Francisco CA, loving grandmother of Amanda Schmitt of Hanover, Tia and Jae Doherty both of San Francisco CA. Also survived by a sister, Virginia Cooney, of Monroe CT and was the sister of the late Marjorie MacLennan, William P. Kelley, Jr., Donald Kelley, Helen Kelley, Alice Bradley, Leo Kelley, Frances Kelley, Anne McNamara, Therese Kelley, and Paul Kelley. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in HANOVER on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass on Friday at 10 AM in St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Interment in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
