

Born in 1922 in Genesee, WI, she graduated from University of Wisconsin and taught High School English in Wisconsin for 2 years. After marrying her husband, she moved to Pembroke influencing the lives of hundreds of students over the 25 years she was a 5th grade teacher at the Sylvester School in Hanover.
In her retirement years she traveled, became a grandmother, a great-grandmother, and was aptly nicked named “Gramma Great.” She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary, The Rockland Sons of Italy and the Plymouth County Retired Teachers, where she made audio tapes for the blind and handicapped, as well as knit lap robes for nursing home residents. For many years, she read to children at the Pembroke Library for the Dr. Seuss Read Across American Program.
She is survived by her children; Carol Burke, John Sciacca and Maryellen McPhee, 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and one more “on the way.”
Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington St. Rte. 53, Hanover, on Thursday, February 16th from 5-8 PM. Funeral home service will be held on Friday at 9 AM followed by a burial in Pembroke Center Cemetery.
