Francis Gerraughty

Francis “Sonny” Gerraughty died on June 17, 2024 after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Sonny was born in Boston on 5/23/33.  He was pre-deceased by his parents, Francis (Frank) and Anna Bella (Manning), sister Marie, sister Barbara, brothers Richie and Bob, daughter, Pauline, and wife Nancy.  He is survived by his sisters Rita Driscoll and Claire Cotter (Bernie), ex-wives, Mary and Donna, children Fran Smith (Glenn), Joe Gerraughty (Libby), Anna Precourt (Paul), Michelle Jones, Rhonda Whalon (Scott), Treva Sabin-White (Chris), Scott Gerraughty, Sean Gerraughty (Danielle) and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He had been especially close to his grandchildren with whom he lived and/or saw frequently: Evan Sabin, Aden Sabin-White, Kilian Gerraughty, Torin Gerraughty, Ryan White, Erin White and Lucy White. He lived in the Sabin-White home in Marshfield for the last 15 years but had lived in Hanson, MA for most of his adult life.

Sonny owned his own insurance brokerage (Competitive Insurance) in Hanover, MA after working several years with Prudential.  He was very proud of his work there as well as his many years of charitable work through the Hanson Kiwanis Club where he served as President on multiple occasions over his decades of work with them.  He was a proud graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School.

He was an affable man who was always ready with a joke for any occasion and often had a song on his lips.  He loved people and was at his happiest when enjoying a laugh and a pleasant conversation with friends and family.  He loved “old-time” country music (especially George Jones), Broadway musicals (particularly “Les Misérables”) and helping others in whatever way possible.  

A wake will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Home in Hanover (551 Washington St.) on Thursday June 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM with a Christian burial occurring on Friday June 21, 2024 at 10:00 AM in the Knollwood Cemetery Memorial Park in Canton, MA. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Hanson Kiwanis Club, PO Box 444, Hanson, Ma 02341, in Sonny’s name.
