

Gary G. Melanson of Bryantville, Massachusetts, passed away with his loving wife by his side on July 2nd, 2026, at the age of 73. He was born on December 5th, 1952, to the late Ralph and Helen (Walsh) Melanson.
After graduating from South Shore Technical High School, class of 1970, he then served in the United States Air Force. He later met his wife, Laura Lee Melanson (Berglund). They married in 1978 and shared 47 wonderful years together while raising their 4 children. Gary enjoyed his career as an electrician, but his heart was truly in the work he did for over 30 years as a Call Fire Captain for the town of Pembroke, station 1. Gary was known across various jobs for his funny sense of humor.
Gary is survived by his wife Laura Melanson, daughter Lisa Farmer and her husband Jonathan of Yarmouth, his son Paul Melanson and his wife Brooke of Rockland, his daughter Kelly Melanson and her husband Patrick Derosier of Whitman, and his son Michael Melanson and his wife Lisa of Pembroke. He is survived by his 7 grandchildren. He will forever be known as “Papa” to Alissa Farmer, Jonathan Farmer, Ashley Mello, Matthew Melanson, Peter Melanson, Raegan Derosier, and Max Melanson. He is additionally survived by 2 great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Finnick Mello, as well as many cherished friends, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family who loved him very much. He is predeceased by his sister June Melanson, brother Mark Melanson and brother Peter Melanson. He is survived by siblings Bruce Melanson, Bryan Melanson, and Lauren Sparks (Melanson).
Gary loved watching sports and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was known for his loving demeanor and great sense of humor, and would always crack jokes with family and friends. He took such pride in his family. Gary loved his beloved dog, Penny, as well as his late beloved dog, Chloe.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 814 Indian Head St, Hanson, MA 02341, on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service starting at 6:45 P.M.
There will be a private burial of Gary’s ashes at Bourne National Cemetery to be held at a later time, as he was an honorably discharged veteran who served in the era of the Vietnam War.
