

Gary was a retired Hanover Police Officer, and proudly served the Town of Hanover as a dedicated member of the Hanover Police Department, where he made history as the first K-9 Officer. Following his distinguished law enforcement career, Gary continued to serve his community as a skilled plumber and business owner. For many years, he worked as the Plumbing and Gas Inspector for the towns of Hanover and Pembroke. He was also deeply involved with the Hanover Police Boys Club, where he served as Vice President and made a lasting impact on local youth.
A lifelong lover of the sea, Gary grew up lobstering with his father and remained an avid boater throughout his life. He and his beloved wife, Joan, spent many happy years chartering boats and cruising the Caribbean, sharing a deep love for the water and for adventure.
Gary was the beloved husband of Joan (MacLeod) Young, and the devoted father of Joseph Young, Jim Young and his wife Kim, Juli Bethony and her husband Tony, and Gary W. Young. He was the dear brother of Susan Arruda and her husband Bill, and was predeceased by his brothers Roger Young and Robert “Bob” Young, and his sister Shirley Boulter. He was the proud and cherished grandfather of Anthony and Erik Bethony, Joe, Steven, Victoria, Morgan, and Rory Young. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street (Route 53), Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary’s memory may be made to the Hanover Police Boys Club, 129 Rockland Street, Hanover, MA 02339.
Gary will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his community, and his love for the ocean. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, devotion and a quick wit that will not be forgotten.
