

He was born on October 29, 1932 in Chicopee, Massachusetts, the son of the late Mary Nee Dussault and Joseph Hubert Guay. After graduating from Chicopee High School he was drafted into the United States Army serving during the Korean War from 1953-1955 with an honorable discharge. He went on to earn an Associates degree in Design Engineering (Draftsman) at Northeastern University, Boston, MA. He built a meaningful career as a design engineer at various companies throughout his life. His last place of employment was with Codman and Shurtleff, in Braintree, MA designing surgical instruments for microsurgery. George worked for Codman and Shurtleff for 20 years before retiring.
Outside of his professional life, he had a strong commitment to his faith and family. George enjoyed woodworking, making several beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He was known by all for his quick wit, and suggestions on how to do things more efficiently, or “his way, the right way”. He was also passionate about recycling. Above all achievements, his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marie; his children, Lisa Bisgounis and her husband Paul of West Barnstable, MA; Katherine Guay and her partner James Platek of Pembroke, MA; and his cherished grandchildren, Robert Rowe of Akron, OH, Matthew Rowe, of South Portland, ME; and Natalia Guay of Pembroke, MA. He also has one Great-Grandson Robert J. Rowe also of Akron, OH. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Mary Guay; 2 brothers; Gilbert and Hubert Guay and son William G. Guay.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St. (Route 53), Hanover, MA 02339. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of the Angels (St. Mary's Church), 392 Hanover St. Hanover, MA followed by burial at Couch Cemetery, Union St., Marshfield, MA.
