James Manning

James Manning, 68, of Pembroke, Massachusetts, passed away on July 23, 2026. Born on October 7, 1957, in Boston, Massachusetts, James built a life defined by steadfast devotion to family, deep community ties, and a loyalty that could always be counted on.

For many, James was the steady presence who showed up—without fail and without fanfare. He never missed a game, whether it was hockey, football, or wrestling, and that same unwavering commitment carried him to every one of his son’s and daughter’s games, and later, to each of his grandchildren’s events. His constancy was one of the clearest ways he expressed love.

A lifelong sportsman, James loved football and played quarterback for B.C. High School and the South Boston Chippewas. He also played softball for many years for Laydens Pub in Dorchester, and he proudly ran the Father’s Day golf tournament for his family—an occasion that reflected his gift for bringing people together and making room for tradition, laughter, and lasting memories.

James served as a letter carrier for 30 years with the Dorchester Post Office, a career marked by reliability and a quiet pride in daily work well done. In retirement, he found his greatest joy in time spent with his beloved grandchildren—especially in the pool and gathered by the fire pit—moments that became the heart of his later years. He also cherished the many wonderful memories made traveling with his wife, Lori, alongside best friends and family.

James is survived by his wife, Lori (Reardon) Manning; his two sons, Nicholas Manning and Zachary Manning; Zachary’s wife, Christine Manning; his three stepdaughters, Courtney (Farrell) Regan, Taylor Farrell, and Breanna Farrell; and his grandchildren, Evan, Lily, Owen, Ally, Quinn, Declan, and Isla.

James will be remembered with enduring respect and gratitude—for the loyalty he lived by, the family he held close, and the steady, wholehearted way he showed up for the people and the life he loved.

Visiting hours will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home, 814 Indian Head Street, Hanson on Saturday, August 1st beginning at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Apostle Parish ~ St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquon Street, Hanson at 11AM. Burial will be private.
