
John Joseph Casey, 72, of Abington, MA, passed away quietly on May 9, 2026, after a tough battle with cancer.John was born August 24, 1953, in Boston, MA, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Thompson) Casey. His first few years were in Dorchester, but then his family moved to Hanover, MA where he spent his childhood. His first job was delivering papers for the Patriot Ledger. John was fond of reminding everyone that the Hanover High School football team did not lose a game during his four years of high school (he wasn’t on the team).After graduating from Hanover High School in 1971, John studied both automotive technology and criminal justice. He had lifelong interest in cars and was the family “Go To” for all automotive questions. John was employed at Paul’s Clutch & Machine in Boston for many years. He also worked at Wal-Mart and Home Depot and served as an Election Officer, helping to ensure Boston’s elections were safe and successful.John had many interests. He loved cats and was owned by many in his lifetime. He was passionate about wind power and would have loved to have worked in that field!
Predeceased by his parents, Joseph P. and Dorothy (Thompson), his stepmother Eleanor (Brown) Casey and his sister Joanne M. Casey, MSgt (USAF ret.). He is survived by his sister Anne Mills (Shannon) and his brother Paul Casey (Beth Ann), his nieces Jenica Cocco (Matt) and Alena Casey, his nephew Peter Casey, his step-siblings Pam Korejwa (Jack), Lee Collins (Frank), Peter Brown (Gloria), Betty Brown, Edward Brown (Deborah), many cousins, and his longtime friend and roommate Thomas Curran.
Graveside services will take place on Friday, May 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Hanover Center Cemetery, Hanover, MA. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts should be directed to Scituate Animal Shelter, or to the SPCA of your choice.
