

John Gomes, 70 of Bridgewater formerly a longtime resident of Hanson passed away Friday, March 13, 2015. Loving husband and best friend of Barbara Mastrangelo Gomes. Loving father of Mark and wife Jenna of Hanson, Steven and wife Stephanie of Hanson, Cara Ford and husband Sean of Kingston, and Amy Gavin and husband Kevin of Hanson. Adored by his precious grandchildren, "Gumpy's 8" Jack Gomes, Jeffrey, Evelyn, and Justin Gomes, Abigail and Megan Ford and Maeve and Keira Gavin. Son of the late Manuel and Mary Mulligan Gomes, brother of Gerald Gomes and his wife, Bonnie and the late Paul Gomes. His loving nieces and nephews, sister and brothers-in-law. Born in Cambridge and raised in Dorchester, He and his wife of 45 yrs lived in Hanson for 34 yrs before moving to Bridgewater 9 yrs ago. He was an active member of St Joseph the Worker Church in Hanson since 1973., a member of St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Name, a volunteer for CCD , My Brother's Keeper, Hanson Food Pantry, great coach of his children's youth sports, a member of South Shore Yacht Club, an avid sailor. He had worked for 35 yrs at the Boston Globe. He loved God, his family and sailing....(last). John had been in the Marine Corps Reserves. John fought a long, courageous battle against pancreatic cancer...charting his own course and living each day since his diagnosis with gratitude and joy for the gift of time with his family; making memories ....He enjoyed life always, sharing his sense of fun. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St, at the corner of Rte 14 & 58 in HANSON on Monday from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 AM in St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan St, Rte 14 in Hanson. Burial in Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson.
