John R. Holmes Sr.

May 30,1940 - April 28, 2022

A caring loving gentleman passed away at his home in Rockland on April 28th at the age of 81 years. He was born to Richard and Dorothea Holmes in Littleton N.H on May 30th 1940. After graduating from the University of Maine he spent a naval career aboard the U.S.S Essex from 1963 to 1967. John established his own business J.R Holmes Jewelers of Marshfield MA from 1982 to 2017.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years Kathleen Holmes, a younger brother Michael Holmes of Greenville ME and his wife Mary. Also survived by his 5 children, his late son Greg Holmes, Andrea Holmes Loughlin and her husband Paul of Rockland MA, John Holmes Jr of Abington MA and his wife Michelle, Douglas Holmes of Whitman MA and his wife Deb, Elizabeth Carmignani and her husband Nick of Laconia NH Also survived by many grandchildren Nicole, Jessica, Mike, Nick, Mary, Rachelle, Jake, Meaghan, Victoria, Hailey, Jenna, Grace, Tyler, Abbie, Kathleen, Kiley, Ryan, John and Rebecca. Along with great grandchildren Cameron, Ryan, Avah, Carly, Rylee, Helena, Lila, Madelyn, Maddox, Dominic and Timothy. Lastly, several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water Street, in Rockland on Thursday from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM at Holy Family Church, 403 Union in Rockland. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
