Marie I. Guay (Cormier), 90, of Pembroke, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, July, 28th 2026. She was born on May 15th, 1936 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, to Joseph and Yvonne Cormier. Marie graduated as a registered nurse from the Jeanne Mance School of Nursing in Burlington, VT, in 1957 and worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, home care, and long term care throughout her 40 year career. She married the love of her life, George W. Guay in 1958, sharing 67 years of marriage.
Marie was the heart of her family. Nothing made her more happy than hosting holiday dinners, especially Thanksgiving, where she proudly planned, cooked, and baked pies for the sometimes very large gathering of family and friends. After such dinners Marie was often found sound asleep on the couch after a job well done. She taught her children the value of kindness, hard work, and a good book. Her happiest moments were spending time with her children and grandchildren and traveling when she could.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa Bisgounis and her husband Paul of West Barnstable, MA and Katherine Guay and her partner, Jim Plaket, of Pembroke, MA., her three cherished grandchildren, Robert and Matthew Rowe, and Natalia Guay; and her great-grandson, Robbie Rowe. She also leaves behind a sister, Patricia Muldoon, of Hilton Head Island, SC and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, her son, William, and 2 sisters, Virginia Fortin and Sr. Lucille Cormier, CND
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St. (Route 53), Hanover, MA 02339. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of the Angels (St. Mary’s Church), 392 Hanover St., Hanover, MA followed by burial at Couch Cemetery, Union St., Marshfield, MA.
