Marlene Carter of Hanover, formerly of Brookline, passed away on November 7, 2023 at 90 years old. She was the loving mother of Patrise Haggerty and her husband David Haggerty of Hanover. Dear grandmother to Heather Haggerty and Daniel Haggerty and his wife Hailey. In September, she welcomed her first great-grandchild, Hunter Daniel Haggerty. She is also survived by her beloved niece who was like a second daughter to her, Susan Duquette and her husband Tom and children April Duquette, Tom Duquette Jr., his wife Stacey, and their son Charlie. She also leaves behind many great-nieces and nephews.
She had unwavering faith in God and cherished her family. She embraced every opportunity to share special moments with her loved ones and felt grateful to have enjoyed a long and happy life. She believed a life with no risks wasn’t worth living. She loved music and sang professionally for most of her life, singing with some of the big bands in Boston in the 1950-60’s. The lyrics and words from a song she recorded back in 1966 perfectly punctuate and capture what is in our hearts right now and forever.
"Although the leaves may fade, from green to autumn shade, our love will always be the same eternally. And when the stars so bright, no longer shine at night, our love will still be true as long as I have you. The lonely sea has taken us apart, and I am left, with an aching breaking heart, so darling can't you see, our love will always be, forever in my heart. Although we're far apart”.
Visitation will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington Street, Route 53, Hanover, on Tuesday, November 14th from 4-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Angels Parish - St. Mary’s, 392 Hanover Street, Route 139, Hanover, on Wednesday, November 15th at 9am. Burial will follow at Hanover Cemetery.
