Mary was born on June 29, 1940, in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, to the late Daniel and Sarah (Arthur) McLarey. Mary immigrated to the United States with her family as a child and lived in Cohasset, Massachusetts. After Mary and Joe were married they made Scituate their home, where they raised their family.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Joseph F. Slater, Jr. and a devoted mother to Laurie Eldon and her husband Charles of Waterville, Maine; Norma Foster and her husband James of Pembroke, Massachusetts; and Joseph D. Slater of Scituate, Massachusetts.
For many years, Mary worked as a special needs bus driver for the Town of Scituate, a job that reflected her caring nature and compassion for others.
She was a cherished grandmother to James Schram, Laura Eldon, Priscilla Foster, Rebecca Foster, Sarah Jacobs, Marykate Slater, Joseph Slater, Kristen Slater, and Lesleigh Slater, and a loving great-grandmother to her two great-grandchildren. Mary was the dear sister of the late Daniel McLarey.
She will be lovingly remembered for her devotion to her family, her caring heart, and the many lives she touched throughout her years in Scituate. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
