Mr. Matthew Paul Lyons

Matthew Lyons, a devoted husband, loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and loyal friend, passed away surrounded by love and remembrance. A skilled craftsman and respected professional, he leaves behind a legacy defined by strength, determination, and generosity. Matthew spent most of his career in the demolition industry as a proud member of Local 4 Union of Boston and with Brokk USA, where he became one of the nation’s leading remote-controlled demolition specialists. Renowned for his expertise with Brokk machines in complex and confined environments, he was trusted to lead challenging projects, train crews nationwide, and solve problems others could not.

Through his work ethic, leadership, and commitment to excellence, he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike. He took great pride in his craft and found deep fulfillment in helping others grow within the trade.

Matthew shared more than three decades of devoted love and partnership with his wife, Rachel. Together, they built a life grounded in loyalty, laughter, resilience, and unconditional love. Their marriage stood as a lasting example of commitment and companionship through every season of life.

He loved deeply and without hesitation. Fiercely loyal to his family and friends, Matthew was always ready to offer support, guidance, or a helping hand. Even during illness, his courage and selflessness remained constant, as he continued to focus on the well-being of those he loved.

Outside of work, Matthew enjoyed heavy equipment, freshwater fishing, building projects, and creating beautiful outdoor spaces. He took pride in operating excavators and improving his property, always envisioning and planning his next project.

He also dreamed of creating a sanctuary where older dogs and animals could live out their lives in comfort, safety, and care—a reflection of his compassion and love for animals.

Matthew is survived by his wife, Rachel; his parents, Richard Lyons and Ellen Lyons; his brother, Richard F. Lyons Jr. and his wife Kerri; his sister, Melissa Costa and her husband Peter; and his sister, Julie Lyons. He is also survived by his niece, Molly; nephews, Gus and Jack; his cherished dogs; his Aunt Resa, extended family, including cousins; and many friends and colleagues whose lives were deeply enriched by knowing him.

Matthew will be remembered for his strength, quick wit, generosity, determination, and unmistakable spirit. His legacy lives on in every life he touched, every lesson he shared, and every act of kindness he gave.

Visiting hours will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Route 53, Hanover, on Friday, July 31st from 4pm to 7pm. A Funeral Home service will be held on Saturday, August 1st at 10am followed by burial in Hanover Center Cemetery.
