Maureen T. (Downing) McLaughlin of Hanson passed away on August 30th, 2023 after a long battle with respiratory illness. Maureen was born on June 15th, 1951 to Josephine (Gorski) Downing and Daniel Downing. Born in Dorchester and spent most of her childhood life in Quincy. She married her high school sweetheart John McLaughlin Sr. on August 11th, 1974. Maureen was the mother to 3 beautiful children, John McLaughlin of Taunton, Kelly McLaughlin of Marshfield and Sandra McLaughlin of Hanson. She is survived by her sister, Fran Pacheco and her husband Donald of Braintree, her 2 brothers, Jim Downing and his wife Ginger of Norwood as well as Daniel Downing and his wife Denise of Rockland. She was also a proud grandmother "nana" to one grandson, Benjamin McLaughlin.
Maureen worked as a secretary in various businesses over the course of her life. She was a friendly face to anyone who knew her. She made many friends throughout her life including the time she was at St Joseph's Manor in Brockton during her remaining years. Maureen thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo, card games and choosing her newest outfits. She was a devoted and loving wife of 49 years to her husband John whom she built a home with for them and their 3 children in Hanson. Known as a caring and light-hearted person to all of her friends and family, Maureen enjoyed time at her favorite restaurants, seeing movies and spending time with her children. One of her favorite vacation spots was the White Mountains in New Hampshire which she and her husband John took their kids and eventually their grandson to nearly every summer. You'd find some of her happiest times were floating down the lazy river or in the wave pool with her kids at their favorite water parks. Her favorite holiday was Halloween which she anticipated every year even more than her kids. She had a boisterous laugh that was infectious and loved to reflect on life’s random comedic moments. Maureen was an avid reader of true crime and various novels. She loved getting dressed up for a night out with friends and family or being at home talking about old times.
