Born and raised in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Lorenz and Frieda (Fuchs) Naegelin and the sister of Richard Naegelin and the late Cortland Naegelin. In 1958, Nancy married her beloved husband, William Madden, to whom she was married for 59 years. Nancy adored her home in Hanover, where she forged lifelong friendships and provided happy childhoods to her three children. She enriched the lives of many by focusing on the little things, from hosting and cooking festive holiday dinners, to sending thoughtful notes and gifts to friends and neighbors to celebrate big occasions and small; to showing her enthusiastic support for her kids and grandkids over the years at track meets, little league games, school plays and concerts, high school and college graduations, et al.
A lover of nature and animals, Nancy found joy in the cardinals, blue jays and other wildlife that were drawn to her birdfeeders and beautiful flower gardens. As both a teacher’s aid and secretary at Center School for many years, Nancy left her positive, cheerful imprint on generations of children and will always be remembered for her trademark kindness, thoughtfulness and sense of humor. But her most cherished role of all was that of mother/grandmother. Nothing put a smile on her face like hearing about her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments, travels, hopes, dreams, and every day stories.
Nancy leaves behind her son Daryl Madden and his wife Betsy Madden of Reston, VA, her son Lawrence Madden and his wife Irene Dasco Madden of Longmeadow, and her daughter Holly Madden-Merrill and her husband Scott Merrill of Cohasset. She is survived by her 7 grandchildren: Ryan Madden, Nicholas Madden, Kelly Prince, Zoe Dasco Madden, Gabby Dasco Madden, Kade Wanta, and August Wanta.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at Saint Mary of the Sacred Heart Church on 392 Hanover Street Rte. 139 in Hanover. Burial to follow at Hanover Center Cemetery.
