Nora "Ann" Bethoney

Nora “Ann” Bethoney of Hanover passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025. She was 87 years old. She grew up in Boston’s South Cove: “Little Syria” as it was once called, where she developed a deep sense of family and community. After graduating from Girls Latin High School in Boston she joined Boston Penny Bank in the south end.  In 1960, she married Robert Bethoney.

Ann and Bob raised their 3 children in Abington, MA.  Their home was one of pride, family and many family gatherings large and small.  Ann was an exceptional cook, host and friend to many.  Her close circle of girlfriends (including her best friend Sally Sabino in particular) were her strength after she was widowed at 45.  

She worked for over twenty years at the Brockton VA Hospital in the pharmacy.  She had immense enjoyment in her work and compassion for the veterans she interacted with.  After retiring, she enjoyed many gatherings with the ladies from the Red Hat group and senior center and of course her beloved grand-children.

Ann is preceded in death by her husband Robert Bethoney and her parents: Albert and Nora Wyshak and her siblings: Mary Sabino, Lillian Wyshak and Kalil Wyshak.

Ann is survived by her children Thomas Bethoney and his wife Rhonda of Hanover, MA, Robert Bethoney and his wife Therese of Rockland, MA, and Joyce Bethoney of Marshfield, MA. Beloved Grandmother of Thomas Bethoney and his wife Bethany, Brianna Bethoney Bonome and her husband Anthony, Zachary Bethoney, Samantha Bethoney, and Gabriella Bethoney. Great Grandmother of Anthony Bonome Jr. and Austin Bonome.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ann’s visiting hours Sunday,August 17th, 2025 from 4:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street (Route 53), Hanover MA. Ann's Funeral Mass will be held Monday August 18, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church 392 Hanover St (Route 139) Hanover, MA. A burial will immediately follow at Mt. Benedict Cemetery West Roxbury MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
