

Norman J. Macaulay, of Weymouth formerly of Marblehead died July 15. Husband of the late Ruth C. Giblin Macaulay, he was born in Beverly and was the son of the late John A. and Florence MacIsaac Macaulay. A graduate of Beverly High School and Merrimack College, Class of 1981 with a degree in Business Administration, he also attended Salem State College in the field of education. He had been employed by USM Corporation, now Black & Decker for 30 years and following retirement had returned to college. Receiving a merit scholarship to Merrimack College, he had made many friends among the students and faculty and was active in form an organization for returning adult students. Norman was a veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre with the 95th Division, Army Engineers from 1942-1946. He was one of four Macaulay brothers who all served in WWII, Norman and Donald in the U.S. Army in Europe and Chester and John Jack in the U.S. Navy in the pacific. Norman and Donald met in Metz, Germany during the conflict. Norman was a corporate member of Beverly Hospital, served on the Board of Directors of the Beverly Y.M.C.A. and was a former President of the Beverly Jaycees and in his younger days was once named Beverly's "Outstanding Young Man". He was a member of the Msgr. Degan Council Knights of Columbus, the Quarter Century Club of USM Corporation, a former member of the USM Country Club and the Marblehead Cliffs Association. Norman had lived in Beverly all of his life moving to Marblehead in 1983 and was a communicant of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Since retirement he had been an insurance broker and real estate broker on the North Shore. He enjoyed golf, skiing, swimming and travel. Norman is survived a brother in law, Harry Giblin, II and his wife Louise of Weymouth, sisters in law Barbara Macaulay of CA and Faith Heffernan of Rockland and several cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Chester, Donald A. and John Jack Macaulay. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water St., in Rockland on Wednesday from 6-8PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00AM in St. Mary's Church, 253 Cabot St., in Beverly. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beverly.
