

NIONAKIS, Peter Soterios, of Hanover, MA, died on Monday, August 21, 2023. A kind and gentle person with an enormous heart, Peter was born in Boston, MA on April 20, 1963. He was the son of John and Nike Nionakis of Hingham. Peter graduated from Hingham High School in 1981. He then attended Connecticut College, graduating in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in French. Some years later, he obtained his second degree in hotel and restaurant management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Peter managed some of the finest establishments in the Boston area, including the Bristol Lounge at the Four Seasons, Boston. Peter excelled in providing first-class service to patrons with his warm and welcoming demeanor. After some 30 years in restaurant management, Peter leveraged his customer service experience and joined Hingham Savings as a Customer Service Representative in Retail Banking. In a short period of time, he became one of the bank’s top performers. That was Peter, he wanted everyone’s experience- regardless of industry – to be exceptional and memorable.
Peter loved his family, both immediate and extended. He was a devoted caregiver to his parents. He was proud and protective of his younger brother. He loved spending time with his extended family and took a genuine interest in the lives and development of the next generation. Since childhood, he was a passionate Boston Bruins superfan, steadfast in his loyalty during the lean years and savoring their 2011 Stanley Cup Championship. Peter also enjoyed music of all genres, cooking and fishing.
Peter is survived by his loving mother, Nike; his brother, Dimitri, sister-in-law Maria Nanis, and niece, Eva Natalie, of whom he was so very proud; and numerous cousins. Peter was predeceased by his father John, whom he loved and respected deeply.
The viewing will take place on Monday, August 28, at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, 119 Common Street, Braintree, MA 02184 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Hingham Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John P.
