

Rev. Clyde Leonard of Marshfield, formally of Milton, died on Oct. 5, 2011 after a long illness. He was the son of the late James H. and Regina A. Carroll Leonard born in Boston on Jan. 22, 1927. Raised and educated in Boston, Rev. Leonard was a 1954 graduate of M.I.T. and worked as an engineer before entering the seminary. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. After being ordained in 1964 at Boston Cardinal Cushing, Fr. Leonard began his ministry at St. Mary's in Franklin, continuing at St. Kevin's in Dorchester, Immaculate Conception in Stoughton, St. Mary of the Sacred Heart in Hanover and the Immaculate Conception Church in Revere. During the 1960's he was the Chaplain for the Juvenile Court of Boston. During retirement Fr. Leonard assisted at various parishes, St. Helen's Church in Norwell, St. Joseph the Worker in Hanson and St. Thecla's Church in Pembroke. He was also the Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus in Pembroke. Fr. Leonard is survived by his brother Everett Leonard and his wife Shirley Brown of Hingham, his sisters Regina Scannell of Harvard and Judith A. Maloney and her husband Stanton of N. Yarmouth, ME. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Fr. Leonard will Lay in State at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, Rte 139, Hanover St., Hanover on Monday, Oct. 10 from 6-8pm. A Funeral Mass at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 11:00am. Interment will be private.
