
Mr. Richard J. Simmons, 86 of Bridgewater died Monday, May 30, 2011 at Braemoor Rehab and Nursing in Brockton. The son of the late James and Margaret McGrath Simmons, he was born in Boston on September 13, 1924. He served in the Army during WWII in Panama Canal area as a truck driver. He was a Lifetime member of VFW. Mr. Simmons was a long time custom home builder, a former Board of Health Inspector for the town of Hanover and the town of Bridgewater. He loved remote controlled model airplanes. In fact one of his designs appeared in a national model airplane magazine. Husband of the late Doris Follansbee Simmons, father of Richard Hart of Safety Harbor Florida, Robert Hart of Punta Gorda Florida, Bruce Simmons of Stamford Connecticut, Paul Kelleher of Carlisle Mass and Michael Kelleher of Port St. Lucie Florida. Brother of Joan and Gloria of North Carolina. Visitation in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St., at the corner of Rte 14 & 58 in HANSON on Monday morning from 9-10:30 AM followed by a service in the Funeral Home at 10:30 AM. Interment in Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson.
