

Mrs. Rita Lane Cox Freeland, 68 of Halifax, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 at home after a year long struggle with cancer. She was born and raised in the Houghs Neck section of Quincy on January 13, 1938. The daughter of the late Frederick A. and Annie G. Buckley Lane. She attended Quincy High School and had lived in Houghs Neck until moving to Halifax 41 years ago. Until the time of her illness, Mrs. Freeland was employed as a special needs school bus driver for Judco Inc in Duxbury for 30 years. Previously, she was employed at Raytheon in Quincy, Ocean Spray in Middleboro and McDonald's restaurant in Hanover. For many years she was involved with the Imperials Drum and Bugle Corps of Pembroke. Along with her husband, they traveled all over New England with the drum corps. He maintained the group's buses and she maintained their uniforms. Mrs. Freeland enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards, her pets NASCAR and spending time with her grandchildren. Wife of the late Richard J. Cox Sr. and the late Robert F. Freeland., she is survived by 1 daughter, Dorothy A. Cox Dinsmore of Rockland, 1 son, Richard J. Cox of Halifax, 4 grandchildren, Ashley R. Cox, Richard J. Cox and Vangelina M. Cox all of Fall River and Michael J. Dinsmore of Rockland, 2 step daughters, Cheryl Freeland Snyder of Brockton and Robin Freeland Thrasher of Plymouth, 1 sister, Sheila Lane Gustafson and her husband, Roy of Plymouth, 1 aunt, Dorothy Buckley Green of Virginia Beach VA., a niece Brenda Lee Lane of Lynn, two nephews, Erik Lane of Malden and Robert Lane of Marshfield. She was the former mother in law of Michelle Levesque of Fall River and Robert E. Dinsmore of Merrimack NH. Also survived by several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. She was the sister of the late Frederick A. Lane Jr. Funeral Service in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in HANOVER on Monday at 9 AM. Interment in Central Cemetery in Halifax. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-6 PM.
