

Robert J. Cashman of Hingham, formerly of West Dennis, MA and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 1 after a brief illness. Bob was born June 12, 1933, son of Thomas F. and Annie (Gallagher) Cashman. He was raised in Jamaica Plain and attended English High School. He enlisted in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Korea. He was discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He later joined the Boston Fire Department in 1957, serving most of his career in Roxbury and retiring as a Lieutenant assigned to Engine 7 in the South End. After retiring, he continued his education by earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from UMass Boston. Bob was a member of the Boston Firefighters Local 718 IAFF, a life member of the DAV and a member of the American Legion Post 76.
Husband of the late Rosemary M. (Lydon) and the late Gertrude M. (McHallam). Father of Robert A. and his wife Michelle of Plymouth, Maura of Weymouth, Sean J. and his wife Andrea of Hanover and the late Dennis M. Stepfather of Joseph M. Johnson of Fort Myers, FL. He was predeceased by his brothers James (Bunny), John, William, Thomas and Richard and sisters Anna Sperazza and Catherine. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the staff at Rose Court at Linden Ponds who cared for Bob during his recent illness.
Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rt. 53 in HANOVER on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Parish- St. Mary's, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury.
