

Robert (Bob) L. Kane of Longwood, Florida, passed away peacefully at the Island Lake Center, Longwood, Florida on August 13, 2023. He was the loving son of the late William J. and Alice B. (Ford) Kane Sr. of Rockland, Ma.
Bob graduated from Rockland High School in 1949. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserve for three years and served as a military aide to President Kennedy. He graduated from Northeastern University, Boston in 1960, earning his degree in Administration Management. Bob started his career in restaurant management where he managed Hugo’s restaurant in Cohasset and Anthony’s Pier 4 in Boston. He moved to Florida in 1972 and worked at the Contemporary Hotel in Disneyworld, Fl. He later opened his own business selling business promotion and marketing products.
Bob was the former husband of Helen M. (Ruginski) Sarras of Bridgewater, MA. Bob is the loving father of one son, Gregory R. Kane, Deputy Fire Chief of Plymouth, MA and wife Susan (Pyle). Greg’s two daughters, Dr. Ashley and husband Dr. Joseph Monaco, with their son, Roman Joseph of Kansas City, MO. and Samantha L. and husband Chris Dimmer, with their daughter Aubree Grace of Yulee, Florida.
Bob gained five step-grandchildren through Greg’s wife Susan and came to Duxbury, MA to witness the Dahlen marriages, Shawn Jr., Jennifer, Kevin, Timothy all of Duxbury and Brian of Kingston, MA. He also gained many step-great grandchildren, Finn, Cora, Logan, Colby, Riley, Ryan, Reece, Molly and Peter.
In 1986, Bob married the late Shirley J. (Williams), loving mother of two sons Fred S. and wife Christine of Longwood, Florida, their daughter Lauren (Williams) and husband Mark Price of Oregon and James E. Williams of San Antonio, Texas and his two children, Matthew J. and wife Shannon and their sons, Liam and Nolan Williams of Valdosta, Georgia and Summer Grace Williams who is attending Texas A &M in College Station, Texas, with her fiancé Nathan Boyd.
Bob moved to “The Springs” in Longwood, Florida as part of the Glenwood Community in 1978. He began his magic of making The Springs into a spectacular natural landscaped paradise. Not just a hobby, his interest in landscaping was a labor of love going back many generations. His wife Shirley teamed up and they worked together making their community breath taking. Within the community, he was the chairman of the first Springs Landscape Committee and won a seat on The Springs Community Association as part of a seven member board for the entireSprings Development. Bob met more people, made more friends and acquaintances just because he was out there all the time making the landscaping a special place… called home.
Bob is preceded in death by his brother William J. Kane Jr. of Plant City, Florida. He leaves behind two nephews, Brian F. and (Stacey) Kane of Atlantic Highlands, NJ and Patrick W. and (Linda) Kane of Plant City, Florida and one niece, Jennifer A. and (William) Chacosky of Newark, DE and their children.
Visiting hours will take place on Saturday, September 9th from 8:00AM-8:30AM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Hanover MA. A funeral mass will be celebrated immediately following in Our Lady of the Angels – St. Mary’s Church, 392 Hanover St., Hanover, MA . Burial to follow at Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland, 92 Centre Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the disaster relief fund in Maui.
