

Robert M. O’Shaughnessy of Hingham, passed away on January 25, 2021. Bob was born in Boston on August 22, 1931 and raised in Belmont by his late parents, Thomas and Gertrude. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas and sister Virginia. Bob was married to his late wife, Karen for 52 years. He leaves his children, Barry and his wife Deb of Norwell, his daughter Elizabeth of Bourne and his daughter Christine, her husband Peter and grandchildren Amelia, Griffin, Hadley, Lilah and Fernando of Pocasset. He also leaves nieces, nephews and their family’s nationwide.
Bob was a Korean War Air Force veteran honorably serving in the 5th Air Force. He attended the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, CA and began his career as a professional photographer in Boston in the late 1950’s. Called Boston’s Dean of Commercial Photography, he mentored generations of aspiring young photographers and befriended thousands of ad executives, clients and models during his storied career. Traveling to locations both inside and outside of the country, his clients included Converse, Data General, Digital and Honeywell. He loved to take landscape photos that he often donated to organizations for fund raising efforts related to his favorite fish, the Atlantic Salmon.
Bob was passionate fisherman wetting his line from Labrador to Key West, Montana, Scotland, Maine, Eastern Canada, Walden Pond and Cape Cod. He was a world class fly fisherman and longtime member of The Fly Casters, The Atlantic Salmon Foundation and Trout Unlimited. A true conservationist, Bob acquired one of the first catch and release licenses available in Quebec. That year when fishing the Matapedia River, he caught and released a 35lb Atlantic Salmon much to the amazement of the locals and his guide. He was a talented fly tier. Bob lead and attended many fishing trips and outdoor adventures fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A lifelong sports fan, he acquired tickets to the final game of the 1970 Stanley Cup championship where he and his son watched Bobby Orr score The Goal.
Always a proud and loyal friend and family man, Bob will be missed by all.
