Ruth C. Whalen Gibbons

Mrs. Ruth C. Whalen Gibbons, 86 of Rockland died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Southwood Nursing in Norwell. The daughter of the late Daniel and Anne Crosby Whalen, she was born in Boston on November 12, 1923. She was raised and educated in Dorchester and was a graduate of Jeremiah Burk High School. Mrs. Gibbons had been employed as a Ward Secretary at the Veterans Hospital in Jamaica Plain. Wife of the late Peter Gibbons, she is survived by 2 sons, Peter E. Gibbons Jr. of Holbrook, Daniel J. Gibbons of Rockland, 4 daughters, Dorothy Placente of Rockland, Nancy Gibbons of Westwood, Elaine Spera of Stoughton and Theresa Hall of Hanover, sister of Dorothy Foster of Quincy, Mary Parry of AZ and the late Daniel, Paul and Margaret. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water St. in ROCKLAND on Sunday from 3-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St in Rockland. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
