It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas A. Mercadante Jr. on November 10, 2024, at the age of 81. Tom was born on January 14, 1943, in West Roxbury, MA, to the late Thomas and Lucy (LaSala) Mercadante.
Tom met the love of his life and beloved wife of 50 years, Roseanna (Messina) Mercadante. Tom was called by many as Oogy, Dad, Papa, or Mr. Merc. Tom was known for his unwavering love of family, putting others first, old fashion work ethic, and simple meaningful values. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, godfather, and a proud Veteran of the United States Army.
At the age of 20, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Platoon Sergeant. As part of his service, he was stationed in Vietnam. For the years following, Vietnam Veteran decor would be plentiful in his home.
Tom worked as a machinist for Boston Gear in Quincy MA for 30 years. Later, he continued his machinist career at Extrusion Technology in Randolph, MA. His love for building and creating carried over to his home. He found joy and pride that everything inside and outside the house was his footprint.
Tom was very proud of his traditional Italian background. He was passionate about his cooking. There isn’t a meal that could compare to homemade macaroni and a glass of red wine. He was so dedicated to his family, whether meticulously planned family vacations or coaching youth sports. He had a love of watching Boston pro sports, he would never miss a Red Sox or Celtics game. After retirement, he and his wife would find different vacation spots to enjoy their time together.
