Mr. William F. Doherty, 85, of Rockland, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at home. He was born in Milton on March 30, 1924, the son of the late Edward and Mathilda Amet Doherty. He was raised and educated in Milton and has lived in Rockland the past 49 years. Mr. Doherty was a career military member of the Marine Corps during WWII and later served over 20 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Peterson Doherty, 1 daughter, Anne M. Babin of Sardis, TN, 2 sisters, Anne Taylor of Spokane, WA and Katherine Doherty of Walnut Creek, CA, and 6 grandchildren. He was the father of the late William G. "Bill" Doherty. Visiting hours on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water St., ROCKLAND. Relatives and friends will leave at 9 a.m. on Friday from the funeral home to the Mass National Cemetery in Bourne for the burial at 10:30 a.m.
