

William J. "Bill" McAllister, 84 of Reading and formerly of Hyde Park, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018. Born in Boston on May 20, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Delia (Mitchell) McAllister. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Boston College in 1961. He retired as a purchasing manager for Digital Equipment Corporation.
Bill was the devoted husband of the late Madelyn P. (Phelan) McAllister. He was the loving father of Tricia McMillan and her husband Greg of Easton, Karen M. Smith and her husband George of Marshfield, Colleen M. Golden and her husband Matthew of Hanover, Kathleen D. Gosnell and her late husband Kevin of Hanover, Susan J. Surace and her husband Brian of Florham Park, NJ, and Janice M. McAllister of South Weymouth. Bill, was the beloved grandfather, "Da", of Michael and John McMillan, Danny and Kellie Smith, Charlie, Clare, and Jack Golden, Scotty, Jake, and Joey Gosnell, and William and Taylor Surace. He was the dear brother to Peggy Donohoe, Joseph McAllister, Jack McAllister, the late Jay McAllister, Mary Sullivan, Joan Lynch, and Patsy McAllister. Also survived by sister in law Helen (Phelan) Noonan and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was devoted to his family and friends and was loved by all who met him. He was adored and cared for by his six girls. He enjoyed his summers with family in Marshfield and traveling with Madelyn. He was a longtime BC football fan and also enjoyed watching New England sports. Bill lived a FANTASTIC life! We would like to thank the staff in the memory care unit at All American Assisted Living, Hanson, MA for the compassionate care they provided.
Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Rte 53, Hanover, on Monday from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover Street, Rte 139, Hanover. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury.
