Elaine Read-Cole passed away on July 25, 2026 after a brief illness. She was born in Weymouth, MA on October 16, 1956 to Charles and Ann Marie (O’Shea) Read as the third of twelve children. She graduated from Weymouth South High School in 1974. In 1976, Elaine met Gary Cole. Together they had one child, Rayne, in 1978 and later married in 1981. She never did anything in a conventional way!
Elaine’s career path was a long and twisty road, but she was first and foremost an artist. She continued her art in different ways even after her eyesight started to fail. In addition, Elaine worked in cable tv for several years before finding her true passion in spirituality. She encompassed this passion in her teaching of yoga, practice of and teaching Reiki, and ultimately life coaching. She touched many lives in group teachings and private sessions, becoming friends with most of her clients. Some of whom became like family. She made friends everywhere she went and once she did, she did whatever she could to make their lives brighter, even if what she thought was best didn’t exactly match what they envisioned. In fact, one of the last things she had wanted to do was buy some essential oils for a worker at a farm stand who had said how much she loved Elaine’s scent. Just one example of how she thought.
Elaine’s greatest joy in recent years was teaching her only granddaughter, Eleanor. She passed on her love of spirituality, gardening, and taking care of others. They were two peas in a pod and Eleanor will surely carry her legacy gracefully.
Elaine is survived by her husband Gary Cole, her daughter Rayne Cole (and husband Ronald Raasch), and her granddaughter Eleanor Raasch, all of Pembroke. As well as by her siblings Dana Read of Texas, Carla Haggett of Plymouth, Brian Read of Brockton, Maria Read-Gardner of Virginia, Joyce Lamoureaux of Wrentham, Paula Rinn (and husband Joe) of Middleboro, Fran Cornwall (and husband Phil) of Whitman, Mark Read (and wife Cheryl) of Bridgwater, Barbara Barton (and husband Doug) of Uxbridge, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents and sisters Rhonda Read and Patricia Read.
Visitation services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 1pm-4pm at Sullivan Funeral Home, 814 Indian Head St, Hanson, MA 02341. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity for animals or children.
