Karen was the devoted wife of 54 years to the late Edward Martin, the love of her life. She leaves behind her loving children: Edward Martin Jr. and his wife Deborah, Kenneth Martin and his wife Maria, and Maryann Martin. She was a cherished grandmother to Ryan, Michael, Angeline, Alex, JR, and Wendy, and a proud great-grandmother to Madison, Charlie, and Abi. Her family also included her beloved grand-fur babies, Thor and Alice, who brought her endless joy.
Born and raised in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Karen was the eldest child of the late Charles and Mary Gilbert. She is survived by her brothers, Carey Gilbert, Andrew Gilbert, and Richard Gilbert, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. While she spent many years in Revere, she found her true home in Pembroke, where she lived for more than 30 years and created countless memories with family and friends.
Though small in stature, Karen was truly a force of nature. Strong-willed, determined, and fiercely devoted to her family, she approached life with strength, resilience, and a generous heart. Nothing made her happier than gathering her loved ones around the table. It was not unusual for her to prepare a full turkey dinner in the middle of a summer heatwave if it meant bringing her family together.
Karen took great pride in her Polish heritage and was famous for her homemade stuffed cabbage and pierogies, recipes that became treasured family traditions. Her kitchen was often the heart of every holiday, celebration, and family gathering.
Beyond her dedication to her own family, Karen devoted many years of her life to caring for others. As a caregiver at Cardinal Cushing Centers, she provided compassionate support to women with intellectual disabilities, touching countless lives through her kindness, patience, and unwavering commitment.
Karen's strength, warmth, sense of humor, and unconditional love will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the lives she touched, and the memories that will be held close for generations to come.
