Christopher A Hertel

A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, he married June Bruns on October 27, 1979, and he was a devoted husband to June for nearly 46 years. Chris was a loving father to his daughters, Carissa (Chris) Meyer of Columbus, IN and Rachel (Zach) Rutledge of Indianapolis, IN, and his greatest joy was being “Bapaw” to Adela, Jackson, Lydia, and Elias. He now joins his granddaughter, Hannah, in heaven.

Chris’s life was a testament to perseverance, faith, and joy. Though he faced many challenges, he overcame adversity with a positive spirit that uplifted everyone around him. He loved God, cherished his family, and was always ready with a good dad joke to make others smile.

A faithful member of Gar Creek Lutheran Church, Chris lived his life in service and devotion, reflecting the love and grace of his Savior. In addition to his wife, kids, and grandkids, he is survived by two sisters, Tobie Raderstorf and Jewell Sutton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Susan Hertel.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his unwavering love, humor, and faith.

A funeral service will be held at 12 pm, Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Gar Creek Lutheran Church, 1910 N Berthaud Rd, New Haven, IN 46774. Visitation will be held from 10 am to 12 pm.

Burial will take place at the Gar Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, New Haven, IN.
