

CLIFFORD D. LIECHTY, 86, formerly of Grabill, Ind., passed to his eternal home on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen, Ind. Born July 19, 1926, in Grabill, Ind., he was a son of the late Peter A. and Martha (Yoder) Liechty. On Jan. 30, 1949, he married I. Betty Rupp in Fulton County, Ohio; she preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 2004. He lived his entire life in the Grabill area. He worked in the construction industry, owning Liechty and Associates in New Haven, Ind. He built numerous homes in Fort Wayne and the surrounding area. He was a member of North Leo Mennonite Church where he served as an elder, member of the building committee, Dare to Care Ministry, church choir and in a men's quartet. He volunteered with House against Hunger, Habitat of Humanity, he was a former officer with the Fort Wayne Home Builders Association, Mennonite Disaster Service, Menno-Hof and the Dove's Nest. He will be remembered for his woodworking skills and the many blue ribbons he won for his entries at the Grabill Country Fair. He spent many hours of retirement creating wooden items that he shared with family and friends. Survivors include children, Jon (Carol) Liechty of Sayre, Pa., Jim (Angela) Liechty of Fort Wayne, Ind., Jerry (Susan) Liechty of Delaware, Ohio, and Joy Liechty (Rick) Yoder of Goshen; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Miller and Marilyn (Willard) Grieser of Wauseon, Ohio; and one brother, Herbert (Geri) Liechty of Goshen, Ind. He as also preceded in death by his brother, Dale Liechty; sister, Luella King Aeschliman; and infant son, Jay Allen Liechty. Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at North Leo Mennonite Church, Leo, Ind. Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Fri., Oct. 26, 2012, at the church. There will be a private burial service on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Leo Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to North Leo Mennonite Church, Mennonite Disaster Service or Town of Grabill Food Bank.
