

Elsie M. Love, 94, of Harlan, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Parkview Randallia Hospice in Fort Wayne. She was born on November 17, 1928 in Fort Wayne to the late Oran and Blanche (Lyons) Leavell. On April 25, 1948 in Fort Wayne, she married Walter W. Love. He preceded her in death in February of 2009. Mrs. Love was Co-Owner of Love’s Meat Market. She also worked a number of years in the cafeteria of Woodlan Jr. Sr. High School and Saint Peter’s Lutheran School, retiring in 2006. She was a Member of the Harlan United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed working at the food pantry. Elsie was very active in Harlan Lions Club and was a Girl Scout Leader for the Girl Scouts of Limberlost. Of her many achievements, one of the most notable would be her abundant support for the American Red Cross Blood Drives, having given 19 gallons and 3 pints of blood and 70 units of platelets in just the past 60 years. Surviving are her children, Christine “Chris” (Frank) Hartman, Lisa (Brad) Wickham Love, and Frank W. Love; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Battenberg ; and a brother, Carl (Edward) Leavell. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Patti Fouts; a great-granddaughter Maizie Hartman; six sisters; and two brothers. Funeral Services will be Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 4 PM at HockemeyerFuneral Home, 17629 State Road 37, Harlan. Calling will be two hours before the service Sunday.
