Phyllis E. West

Phyllis E. West, 88, of Grabill, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 in her granddaughter, Nicole (Brent) Eastom’s, home where she has been residing for the past six months.

She was well cared for and loved by Nicole and her great-granddaughter, Jaiden Eastom, enjoying her final months with family and friends, full of root beer floats, pizza, cheeseburgers, laughter, walks, and sitcom marathons. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and neighbor. She spent many years raising and loving all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Phyllis was a selfless confidant who supported everyone with no judgement putting their needs above her own. She was a phenomenal cook, homemaker, and loved gardening, planting the most beautiful flowers and plants. She also enjoyed riding her bike and taking walks.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Dee (Brent) Lewis and Teresa Hyde; grandchildren, Nicole (Brent) Eastom, Cody (Nicole) Love, Drew Love and Donnessa Lumpkins; and eleven great grandchildren, Jaiden Eastom, Jackson Eastom, Jace Eastom, Gage Love, Chayce Love, Carson Love, Chloe Love, Aryia Love, Jacob Lumpkins, Kaiden Lumpkins, Austin Lumpkins. Daughter of the late Ernest and Mable Betz, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Darwin West; son, Randy West; daughter, Lorena Davis; and three brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Hockemeyer Funeral Home, 17629 State Road 37 Harlan, Indiana 46743 with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Burial to follow the service at Leo Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be given to Dementia Society of America, www.dementiasociety.org/donate.
